
After mass street protest from the people of Burkina Faso the president has finally resign and the military has taken over the affairs of government for the main time. President Blaise Compaore has been in power for 27 years since the 1987 coup, The demonstrations that forced him out of power started on Thursday when parliament had been due to vote on plans to change the constitution to allow 63-year-old president to seek re-election next year. At least three people were shot dead and dozens wounded during the protest. Diplomats voiced concern after military chief General Honore Traore's announcement he was taking charge as head of state appeared to be challenged by presidential guard commander Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida, who announced his own set of emergency measures and deployed troops on the streets. In a written statement, President Compaore called for election within 90 days and also he told the country that he believe’s he has fulfilled his duty and his only concern is for the higher interest of the nation. A heavily-armed convoy believed to be carrying the former president was seen traveling towards the southern town of Po, which is home to a large military base, diplomatic sources and local media said. Crowds in Ouagadougou street danced, cheered and blew whistles after Compaore's statement was broadcast.
